Thousands showed solidarity for Israel while helping to raise £150,000 for good causes at the weekend.

Now in its second year, IsrAction Day encouraged the public to buy and donate Israeli products to a range of charities, including GIFT, local food banks and the Cumbria flood appeal.

The campaign was started by North West Friends of Israel and Sussex Friends of Israel groups and spread globally this year, with groups in the United States, Canada, France, Germany, New Zealand and South Africa also taking part.

Prior to the event, Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis lent his backing and said: “The beauty of this idea is in its simplicity: solidarity with Israel and support for the most vulnerable in our society with one act.”

The campaign was also supported by a host of communal organisations, including the Board of Deputies, Zionist Federation, Jewish Leadership Council, WIZO and the Glasgow Jewish Representative Council.
