Community’s citizens advice bureau opens Gateshead office

The Jewish community’s citizens advice bureau has opened a new office in Gateshead to serve the Orthodox community in the north-east, amid a surge in requests for help during the pandemic.
The addition adds to the charity’s existing operations in London and Manchester, with almost 200 volunteer caseworkers saying their workload has skyrocketed by 63 percent during the last four months.
“Following several months of preparatory work, we held a successful online training session this week for our first six caseworkers in Gateshead,” said the charity’s chief executive Bayla Perrin. “We’re really pleased to be able to provide our services, as the fallout from the pandemic is having a dramatic impact across the community.”
The new Gateshead branch is being spearheaded by the Jewish Community Council of Gateshead (JCCG) whose project director Yoni Klajn welcomed the new caseworkers who will be helping those needing legal, financial or welfare advice.
