‘Conman’ jailed after breaking court order to set up gourmet chip shop

A ‘conman’ who flouted a court order to set up an upmarket chip shop has been jailed for more than four years – and is reportedly on the run.

The now-defunct ‘Come Fry With Me’ takeaway earned media coverage in 2015 for its gourmet exotic chip toppings.

Simon Levy, 56, from Harrow, was convicted in absentia of breaching a serious crime prevention order and a company director disqualification order after a trial at Oxford Crown Court.

According to the Oxford Mail, those orders were imposed on Levy in 2013 when he was jailed for three years for running a luxury goods business under an alias, despite bankruptcy proceedings.

In addition to the jail sentence, he was also barred from serving as a company director and from owning more than one bank account.

The court heard that police officers uncovered a Mont Blanc wallet in his mother’s Harrow home in 2016 with multiple bank cards and receipts for meals, including at the St John’s Wood deli Harry Morgan.

Levy reportedly claimed he was hired as a branding consultant and did not act as a director for Come Fry With Me.

But Judge Gledhill reportedly told the court: “This is a man with a string of serious offences of dishonesty. He is a fraudster and a conman.”
