A major street near London’s Israeli embassy was evacuated on Wednesday evening as police attended reports of a suspicious vehicle.

Officers went to Palace Green just off Kensington High Street and carried out a controlled explosion on a vehicle, near the embassy.

A spokeswoman for the Met said: “Officers attended reports of what was initially thought to be a suspicious vehicle. Officers went down there to assess the vehicle but it was deemed non-suspicious.”

One Israeli embassy member of staff said: “We are all safe. I can confirm everyone is fine. A controlled explosion has taken place.”

People in the area, not far from Kensington Palace, tweeted that it was on “lockdown” during the incident.

The police cordon has since been lifted.
