Council removes ‘hateful graffiti’ comparing Israel to Nazism and apartheid
Westminster local authority says they take reports of hate crime 'incredibly seriously' as they take down offensive symbol
‘Hateful graffiti’ comparing Israel to Nazism and Apartheid was removed by Westminster council this week.
A star of David was daubed on a wall near to Regent’s Park Underground station, with an equals sign and a swastika, accompanied by the words “Israel Apartheid state”.
Westminster Council who initiated the UK’s first independent local Hate Crime Commission, said it removed the offensive symbols.
Councillor Tim Mitchell, Cabinet Member for Environment and City Management, said: “We take reports of hate crime incredibly seriously, and will always remove any hateful graffiti with haste, as we did in this instance.”
Within the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance definition of antisemitism, a working example of Jew-hatred includes: “Drawing comparisons of contemporary Israeli policy to that of the Nazis.”
