Police have arrested a man and a woman following the death of a seven-year-old girl in an area with a large strictly-Orthodox Jewish population after a Jewish ambulance service raised the alarm.

Few details were available as of Tuesday afternoon, but the Metropolitan Police said the two were arrested on suspicion of child neglect in a postcode covering Stamford Hill, as well as Stoke Newington, Newington Green, Dalston, and Shacklewell.

The man, aged 49, and the woman, aged 50, were later released on bail until April, after the Jewish volunteer medical organisation Hatzola and the London Ambulance Service called police to the address on Friday.

It is not yet known how the girl died, with a coroner’s report pending.
