New CST guidelines prioritise volunteers under 65

Volunteers for the Community Security Trust (CST) will not be forced to hang up their high-vis jackets when they hit 65 years of age, but the charity said this week that 65 was the cut-off “guideline”.

The clarification follows online rumours that the much-loved organisation would be casting volunteers aside when they reach pension age.

A spokesman said that 65 is “the upper-age limit guideline” for card-carrying CST security volunteers to be deployed at communal events “but it is only a guideline and exceptions will be made for those who are fit and able”.
