Cyclist Bloch lives dream, but falls short in race

Oldest member of Israel's delegation finishes women's road race in 48th place.

Shani Bloch, the eldest member of Israel’s Olympic delegation finished Sunday’s women’s road race in 48th position.

The 37-year-old, who was the Israeli road cyclist to participate in the Olympics since 1960, retired 12 years ago to start a family, and only returned to competition two years ago.

And while she was fulfilling a dream by taking part in the Games, the 136.9km race in 32 degree heat along the Fort Copacabana saw her finish in 48th place in a time of 4:02:59, 11:32 minutes behind the winner, the Netherlands’ Anna Van der Breggen.
