The comedian David Baddiel was among a swathe of A-listers hailing the “complete legends” supporting the elderly and vulnerable in a video message to the charity Jewish Care.

The social care organisation teamed up with a handful of celebrities in a social media campaign this week to maintain staff morale high during the pandemic.

In the short clip, published online on Thursday, Baddiel thanked its staff “who are working in the present crisis to try and help all the most vulnerable and older members of the community.”

“You are heroes. All of you are absolutely heroes. Complete legends,” he said. “And also a big thank you as well to all the volunteers who have come forward recently to help the isolated and house-bound members of the community.”

The paralympic basketball gold medallist and TV presenter Ade Adepitan’s message praise Jewish Care volunteers and staff for “doing an amazing job at this really difficult time. “

“You’re doing a wonderful job helping the vulnerable and the elderly in the community, who really really need it,” he said.

Other video messages came from X Factor’s Dermot O’ Leary, the singer Craig David, the Coronation Street star Maureen Lipman.
