Got a problem? Ask Bubba

Bubba Ruth with her grandkids

Got a problem? Meet Bubba!

Bubba, or Ruth as her family knows her, is ’70-something young’… widow. She shared 35 wonderful years with her husband Harry.

Bubba has a stunning daughter, Rochelle, and is grandmother to four beautiful grandchildren (including her beautiful lesbian granddaughter, India), who gives her more “nachus than she knows what to do with”, as Bubba puts it.

Bubba likes nothing better than a game of Kalooki and solving the crimes on Murder She Wrote… apart from watching every re-run of  Masterchef.  And of course, she loves your problems, because she can solve them… or at least try to help.

If you would like bubba to help solve your problem, you can email her at bubba@hotsaltbeefandmustard.com, she can’t reply to you personally, in between her kalooki club and watching Masterchef, she doesn’t have much time but she will post her reply on online.

In her first letters column, Bubba Ruth tackles the problem of keeping kosher in relationships

Dear Bubba,

I have been dating my boyfriend Daniel for the last 18 months, he’s 27 and I’m 24, he’s a great guy. My family really like him and so do all my friends, he gets on with everyone and my parents have started to treat him like one of the family.

We went on holiday recently and on the last day he surprised me with a key to his flat and asked me to move in with him. There’s just one problem, I still live at home with my parents and have always kept kosher and Daniel doesn’t, it’s the one thing that  I’m worried about.

I really love him and want to move in with him but I also want to still keep kosher.

What should I do?

 Simon

Darling Simon,

So you call this a problem?? What a lovely problem you have, this is the kind of problem Bubba loves!

Let me get this right, you have a great boyfriend, you’ve been on holiday together (you don’t say where but I’m sure it was somewhere lovely!), he surprises you with a key (have you tried to see if it works first?) and asks you to move in with him! What a mensch! If only my Harry (may he rest in peace) had been so romantic!

My first question has to be, you’ve been dating for 18 months, where have you been eating? and surely you’ve stayed over (he slept on the couch I hope), and I’m guessing he didn’t give you a full English for breakfast!

Bubaleh, relationships are about compromise, a little Chicken Soup and a LOT of talking (Harry loved to talk, though I never ‘loved’  to listen!). If you’re planing a life together then they’ll be lots of situations where you need to have a heart to heart and this is one of those times. You’ve told me what a great guy he is and obviously cares about you, take him somewhere nice and tell him how you feel and see if you can work this out, if not then you tell Bubba where he lives and I’ll talk some sense into him (and boy can I talk, just ask Harry, may he rest in peace) and by the time I’m finished talking he’ll be choosing some meat & milk crockery!

Now where did you meet him? So I can tell my grand-daughter India, I’ve told her many times, “find yourself a nice Jewish girl and settle down” or she could even join HotSaltBeef, such a nice website and completely Kosher, though how you keep kosher on a website is beyond me!

One last thing, you could always go vegetarian, but I know how you boys love your meat!

Love,

Bubba
