The death toll from an Iranian ballistic missile strike on Beit Shemesh has risen to nine after rescue teams recovered two more bodies from beneath the rubble, emergency services said on Saturday.
The missile hit a residential neighbourhood in the city, between Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, flattening part of a housing block and sending shockwaves through the surrounding streets.
Paramedics said 23 people had been taken to hospital. Two are in serious condition, three sustained moderate injuries and 18 were treated for light wounds.
The strike came as Iran launched coordinated attacks across the Middle East in response to what it described as a massive and continuing assault by the United States and Israel.
In the United Arab Emirates, one person was killed and 11 injured following incidents at the country’s two main airports.
Authorities in Abu Dhabi said a drone targeting Zayed International Airport (AUH) was intercepted, but falling debris killed one person and wounded seven others.
In Dubai, officials confirmed that Dubai International Airport (DXB), the world’s busiest airport for international passenger traffic, was damaged in what they described only as an “incident”. Four members of staff were injured. No further details were released.
The attacks mark a sharp escalation in an already volatile regional confrontation, with civilian areas and major transport hubs now directly caught in the crossfire.
