Deliveroo teams up with Chabad for second year to supply ‘Seder-to-go’ kits

Food delivery giant and Jewish outreach group continues partnership to ensure community gets essential Pesach supplies.

Prepared kits ready for distribution

Chabad and Deliveroo have teamed up for a second year to ensure community members have all they need for lockdown seders.

After more than 4,000 items were distributed across the country last year in the early stages of the pandemic, the two organisations have once again teamed up to deliver supplies to peoples’ doorsteps.

Each kit will contain everything required for Passover Seder, including Matzah, with recipients including students away from home, people shielding or self-isolating, the elderly, and international students unable to return home.

A programme will also be run to support Jewish people in smaller communities, with  Lubavitch of Solihull and the local shul, having already taken taken 150 advance orders. Rabbi Yehuda Pink, who serves as Rabbi of Solihull Shul together with Rebbetzin Dinie Pink, said: “It’s amazing to think that in Stratford, the birthplace of the author of the Merchant of Venice, matzah and other Pesach supplies are being delivered door-to-door. I wonder what Shakespeare would have made of it!”.

Chabad Lubavitch UK’s Rabbi Bentzi Sudak said: “Last year’s unique partnership with Deliveroo helped ensure that Jewish people across the UK and Ireland were able to celebrate the festival of our freedom in these uniquely challenging times.”

This year, we want to extend our reach even further, so that every Jewish person can be part of this special festival. Each Seder-to-Go kit will contain a full guide on how to conduct a Seder, as well as all the supplies you need to make Pesach possible including Shmurah Matzah.”

Stephen Goldstein, Executive Vice President at Deliveroo, said: “It is a privilege to support Chabad Lubavitch UK for the second year running and to use our delivery network to bring the joy of Pesach to people across the UK and Ireland.”

Deliveroo’s aim throughout the pandemic has been to support as many members of the community as possible, including delivering 900,000 free meals to the NHS to show our support and gratitude to NHS staff working night and day to keep us safe. We are honoured to support the community and to play a small part to help those in need, not least the elderly and vulnerable.”
