Diego Schwartzman seeded 15 for Wimbledon
Top-ranked Jewish tennis player will be looking to get past the first round of the Championships for the first time, which gets underway on Monday
Diego Schwartzman has been named as the 15th seed for this year’s Wimbledon Championships.
The 25-year-old Argentine will be taking part in his fourth tournament at SW19 – and will be looking to reach the second round for the first time.
Currently ranked 11 in the world, the seeds announced by tournament organisers on Wednesday morning are the top 32 players on the ATP ranking list, but then rearranged on a surface-based system.
The seeding order is determined using an objective and transparent system to reflect more accurately an individual player’s grass court achievements and is based on giving additional credit for grass court performance in the two-year period immediately before the date used for seeding for The Championships.
Italian Camila Giorgi is the only Jewish woman set to take part at the Championships, though wasn’t named among the top 32 seeds.
Dudi Sela, Joanthan Erlich and Yshai Oliel are set to represent Israel.
American Noah Rubin, who won the junior title in 2014, failed to reach the main draw after losing his first qualifier – beaten 7-6, 6-2 by compatriot Michael Mmoh
