Unlike the previous few weeks, the league leaders were quick out of the blocks and dominated much of the game straight from the opening whistle. Their pressure was rewarded midway through the half when a ball dropped to central midfielder, Avi Mocton who curled a delicious curling shot high into the net.

Fortune equalised with their only real attempt on goal when Rob Benson struck an impressive free-kick into the corner of the net from just outside the box. However, Hendon regained the lead shortly before half-time when in-form winger Jono Nesbitt added to his season’s tally with another cracking finish which was remarkably similar to Mocton’s.

The second half was a frustrating affair for Hendon, as they dominated possession and territory, but were unable to kill off the game until the last 10 minutes when Gideon Barth came off the bench to twice finish smartly. The win keeps Hendon B at the top of Division Two, ahead of their mouthwatering third round Cyril Anekstein clash with their A team next Sunday.

Hendon manager Adam Glekin said: “I didn’t think it was our best performance which is a shame considering the Jewish News cameramen were in attendance, but it was relatively comfortable. We were on top for much of the game but Fortune were well organised at the back and defended well, we really struggled to create clear-cut openings. Our goals were of good quality, I’ll need to watch the JN video back to work out which goal was better out of Jono Nesbitt and Avi Mocton, and then Gideon Barth made a real difference when he came on and sealed it with his late double.”
