Marharyta Dorozhon failed to reach the final of the javelin

Marharyta Dorozhon failed to reach the final of the javelin event on Sunday evening.

Needing to either reach the qualifying length of 63.50 or finish in the top 12 of the 31 athletes, her first attempt of 56.02 was bettered with her second throw of 61.33 to give her hope. However, fouling in her third and final attempt, she was left with a seventh place finish in Group A and overall 12th.

Another Jewish athlete, for whom the tournament is over is Australian Steven Solomon, who finished 38th overall in the 400m on Saturday. Finishing his heat in seventh place in the second of six heats, his time of 46.27 meant he missed out on qualification for today’s semi-finals by 0.57 seconds.

Monday evening will though see an Israeli going for medal after Hanna Knyazyeva-Minenko reached the final of the triple jump on Saturday.
