Doubles despair for Sela at Wimbledon

Dudi Sela’s Wimbledon campaign is over after he and Frenchman Stephane Robert were knocked out of the men’s doubles competition on Monday.

Up against the number one seeds Frenchmen Pierre-Hugues Herbert and Nicolas Mahu, it was never going to be an easy task, though the Israeli-French duo would have hopes to have put up more of a threat in the first set – which saw them broken twice as they lost the first set 6-1 in 20 minutes.

The second set started in a more even fashion, but broken once more, they lost the second set 6-3 and match – the matches being the best of three, and not five sets, due to the poor weather in the first week of the tournament.

Jewish interest at SW19 continues on Tuesday, when American Justin Gimelstob teams up with GB’s Ross Hutchins, when they take on American Michael Change and Australian Mark Philippoussis in their invitation doubles match

Elsewhere, American Scott Lipsky is through to the third round of the mixed doubles. Alongside Russian Alla Kudryavtseva, they next play Serbian Nenad Zimonjic and Chinese Taipei’s Yung-Jan Chan for a place in the quarter-finals.
