New head of charity that helps people leave Charedi community ‘inspired’ by new role

A charity that offers support for ultra Orthodox Jews looking to explore life in the modern world has named its new chief executive.

Katie Graham, Mavar’s former outreach and development manager, takes the lead as the organisation builds its services.

Mavar supports those who seek a safe space to explore the resources and skills to live and work in society outside of the strictly-Orthodox community. It offers educational guidance, mentor support, counselling, legal rights, housing and welfare.

Graham’s new role will also focus on building and strengthening relations with service users, supporters, volunteer mentors, tutors and counsellors in London and Manchester.

Graham said: “Since joining in 2019 my passion for the work that we are doing has grown and grown. So much of what we do is about the people in our charity – both our members and our volunteers. Every day I am inspired by their strength, determination and want to better themselves and others.”

Formerly assistant director at the International Centre for the Study of Radicalisation at King’s College, London, for over 10 years Katie was responsible for stakeholder relations, fundraising and communications.
