Duke of Cambridge has audience with Israel's prime minister and head of state, shortly after visiting Yad Vashem

The Duke of Cambridge has met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and President Reuven Rivlin.

The duke met Bibi and his wife Sara at his official residence in Jerusalem, and with the head of state at his home in Israel’s capital.

Israel’s President Reuven Rivlin has called on the Duke of Cambridge to take with him “a message of peace” when he meets Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas later this week.

Speaking at his official residence during a meeting with William and his small delegation Mr Rivlin said: “I know you are going to meet President Abbas.

“I would like you to send him a message of peace and tell him it is about time, it is about time that we have to find together the way to build confidence.

“Build confidence as a first step to bring to understanding that we have to bring to an end the tragedy between us that goes along for more than 120 years.”

Earlier today, Prince William visited Israel’s national Holocaust memorial museum, Yad Vashem, where he paid tribute to his great-grandmother, who saved the Cohen family during the Shoah.
