The Duke of Cambridge has presented Israeli President Reuven Rivlin with a Liverpool FC shirt, signed by Steven Gerrard.

Prince William made the gesture during an audience at the head of state’s official residence in Jerusalem, Israel.

Rivlin, a staunch Reds fan is also a lifelong supporter of Beitar Jerusalem. The pair discussed football, with the President saying how he hoped England reach the World Cup final, as well as joking how Israel’s domestic football league could learn a thing or to from the success of England’s Premier League, saying: “We are still trying.”

During their meeting, President Rivlin urged the Duke to take with him a ‘message of peace’ when he meets Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas later in the week.

After meeting with President Rivlin and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu – Prince William, who is also chairman of the Football Association, joined the UJIA-UK in Israel run ‘equaliser programme’, which brings Jewish and Arab kids together through football.
