Ed Miliband returns to Labour’s front bench

Ed Miliband will return to the Labour frontbench under Sir Keir Starmer as the new leader revealed an overhauled shadow cabinet that includes his former leadership rivals.

Mr Miliband, who was succeeded by Jeremy Corbyn after leading the party to electoral defeat, was named as the new shadow business secretary on Monday.

His predecessor in the role, Rebecca Long-Bailey, has been moved to education. She joins fellow leadership rival Lisa Nandy, shadow foreign secretary, in Sir Keir’s top team.  The Jewish Labour Movement welcomed Lisa Nandy’s appointment, after the group endorsed her as its candidate.

Under his leadership, communal support for Labour plummeted, with a poll conducted before the 2015 election showing more than 60 percent of the community would vote Tory and just 15 percent Labour.

It is incumbent on all members of the shadow cabinet to remember that they are all responsible for fostering a positive relationship with the Jewish community, rebuilding trust and changing the toxic culture of antisemitism in the Labour Party.”
