Edgware school shuts for three weeks over Ofsted breaches and safety concerns

An Edgware school is to close for three weeks due to its breach of Ofsted standards and health and safety laws.

Menorah Grammar School on Abbots Road made the announcement to parents this week saying governors took the decision “in order to safeguard the well being of our children who are in an unsafe building.”

The letter says it has “become increasingly obvious that the building is in breach of numerous Ofsted Standards as well as Health and Safety Legislation, including Fire regulations. These issues are not possible address whilst the building is occupied.”

The school said it is aware the decision will “come as a shock to parents and will be a major inconvenience”, but it has a “legal and moral obligation” to ensure safety.

Explaining the decision to “temporarily close” the school with immediate effect”, the Executive Headt, Menahel (principal) and Headteacher say they will contact parents regarding sessions while the school is closed, and a meeting for parents will also take place.

The school is envisaged to re-open on 23 March, and it will contact parents by 19 March with an update on the extent of work that needs to be done.
