Egypt will give Trump a chance to tackle Israeli-Palestinian conflict

Abdel Fattah el-Sis discusses U.S. president-elect's future role in negotiations.

Egypt’s president Abdel Fattah el-Sisi has received a call from President-elect Donald Trump, in which their pair discussed the incoming US administration’s role in Israeli-Palestinian negotiations.

The talk came after Egypt indefinitely postponed a UN Security Council resolution vote criticising Israeli settlements in the West Bank after pressure from Israel and Trump, called on members to veto it.

A statement from the Egyptian president’s office said the two men spoke by phone early on Friday and agreed on “the importance of giving a chance for the new American administration to deal in a comprehensive way with the different aspects of the Palestinian issue with the aim of achieving a comprehensive and a final resolution”.
