Equalities watchdog investigating Labour may refer to whistleblower testimony in final report on alleged antisemitism, report claims
The Equalities and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) is to use whistleblower testimonies to question the Labour Party on alleged antisemitism, a leaked letter claimed.
The equalities watchdog’s investigation was launched in May to determine whether Labour unlawfully discriminated against, harassed or victimised Jews.
Evidence submitted by whistleblowers will be used as a basis for some questions put to the party, according to the 6 January letter published online by the Sunday Times reporter Gabriel Pogrund.
The EHRC’s final report, widely expected early this year, may refer to some of the information provided, according to the letter written by the watchdog’s Stephen Lodge.
Under the ongoing investigation, the EHRC has full statutory powers to demand access to documents, emails, WhatsApp messages and witnesses as part of its investigation.
Speaking on BBC Radio 4 on Tuesday, Rebecca Long-Bailey, who is vying to replace Jeremy Corbyn as leader, called for all recommendations to be made by the EHRC to be adopted by the party.
The EHRC declined to comment while the investigation is ongoing.
