Election 2015: Tory chairman Shapps to be quizzed at JN forum

Grant Schapps

Grant Shapps is to take questions from an audience of community members in the second of Jewish News’ pre-election events, writes Justin Cohen

The Conservative party chairman will be quizzed at JW3 on domestic and international issues, both of interest to the community specifically and the country at large.

The 27 April event – partnered by the Board of Deputies, Jewish Leadership Council and JW3 – comes only two weeks after Ed Balls took the hot seat for a question and answer event at the same venue on Finchley Road. It will once again be chaired by Sky News’ Samantha Simmonds.

Former BBYO national president Shapps said: “With just days to go before the most critical general Election for decades, I’m delighted to have this opportunity to listen to the concerns of members of the Jewish community and to answer questions on the most pressing subjects of the day.”

The economy, NHS and immigration are likely to top the agenda alongside the challenges facing Israel, the rise of anti-Semitism and faith schools.

Simmonds said: “Well done to the Jewish News for putting on a series of q and a’s with the parties vying for No10 in one of the most closely fought elections in decades. I’m looking forward to hosting the session – a unique opportunity for members of the public to quiz the Conservative Party Chairman.”

Over the past five years, the Jewish News has organised such sessions with leading figures including Ed Miliband, Nick Clegg and Boris Johnson.

The hour-long event will start at 8pm sharp. To book free tickets, please CLICK HERE
