England’s goals tackled by AAD

Charity's latest event discussed Three Lions' chance of success at next month's World Cup, together with the threat of racism in Russia

England’s chances of success at next month’s World Cup, together with the threat of racism in Russia were debated at Action Against Discrimination’s latest event.

Former players – and now pundits – Alan Smith and Garth Crooks, journalists John Cross and Amy Lawrence, together with former FA Chief Executive David Davies, engaged in a lively – and sometimes heated – discussion, which was chaired by TV and radio broadcaster Jonny Gould.

Held at the Hendon Hall Hotel, where England’s victorious 1966 World Cup winning team celebrated its win, the evening also included an auction where signed Spurs and Chelsea shirts, together with 1966 World Cup memorabilia were up for grabs.

AAD chairman Jonathan Metliss said: “It was another thoroughly successful evening overall for AAD, increasing awareness of its activities and profile.”

Gould added: “It was probably the highest quality of panel I’ve ever sat on and was a fantastic event.”
