Jewish News’ design competition marking the Queen’s record-breaking reign!

Budding young artists could be crowned the king or queen of the paintbrush with Jewish News’ design competition marking Her Majesty’s record-breaking reign.

*The closing date for entries has been EXTENDED to 6 September.

Youngsters aged up to 17 are being encouraged to put paint, pastilles, pen or other art materials to paper to celebrate the 9 September milestone when Elizabeth II becomes Britain’s longest-serving Monarch.

Queen Victoria reigned for 23,226 days – 63 years and seven months. Jewish News teamed up with the Partnership for Jewish Schools (PaJeS) to launch the contest, but those attending non-community schools are also encouraged to take part.

The finalists in two age categories – under 12 and 13–17 – will be revealed online on the day of the anniversary.

The following day, the winning designs – selected by a panel of judges including MP Luciana Berger, Richard Ferrer, Editor Jewish News, PaJeS executive director Rabbi David Meyer and Aimee Taylor of the Ben Uri Gallery – will be published in the paper.

The two winners will also win an iPad Air.

Ferrer said: “The community’s affection and admiration for Her Majesty is highlighted in prayers recited every Shabbat in synagogues up and down the country. This contest will enable youngsters across Anglo-Jewry to celebrate her reign and creatively express what the Queen means to them ahead of a significant milestone in our nation’s history.”

Meyer said: “PaJes is delighted to be working with Jewish News in offering schools the opportunity to recognise this important occasion and encouraging pupils to celebrate Her Majesty’s reign.”

Berger said: “I’m delighted to be playing a part in this project marking the Queen’s unparalleled service to Britain over more than 63 years and look forward to seeing the creations of young artists across the community.”
