Israeli interest at the Australian Open was maintained on Saturday morning after Jonathan Erlich booked his place in the third round of the men’s doubles competition.

Alongside Treat Huey, the Israeli-Filipino duo convincingly beat the tournament’s number nine seeds, Swede Robert Lindstedt and Pole Marcin Matkowski, 6-3 6-2. They next take on Spaniard Feliciano Lopez and Belarus’ Max Mirnyi – former doubles partner of Israeli Andy Ram – on Sunday morning for a place in the quarter-finals.

Italian Camila Giorgi put on a brave performance against Venue Williams in her third round singles match, and although she won the first set 6-4, she lost the second on a tiebreak, before comprehensively beaten in the third, 6-1.
