Murray defeats Erlich in Wimbledon semi-final

Yoni Erlich’s hopes of reaching the final of the men’s doubles tournament were ruthlessly ended by Jamie Murray on Thursday evening.

Up against the 13th seeds, GB’s Jamie Murray and Australian John Peers, Erlich and German Philipp Petzschner got off to the perfect start, breaking Murray’s serve in the seventh game as Petzschner then served out for the first set, winning it 6-4 in just 30 minutes.

However, that was as good as it got for the Israeli-German duo. Petzschner was broken in the first game of the second set, and with no further breaks of serve, Peers served to clinch the second set 6-3 and level the match.

The third set went with serve until Petzschner was broken in the ninth game. Erlich and Petzschner then spurrned four break points in the following game, as Peers once more served out for a set, this time securing it at 6-4.

With Erlich visibly struggling, he had his right knee bandaged up throughout the match, the fourth set was a much less competitive affair. Petzschner was broken twice, to see them fall behind 4-1, and while Erlich kept the match alive, Murray, who had struggled with his serve in the first set, was left to serve out for the match – which he did to take the fourth 6-2.
