Erlich won his first round doubles match

Jonathan Erlich got his men’s doubles campaign off to a winning start after winning a thrilling first round tie on Wednesday afternoon.

Pairing up with Brazilian Marcelo Melo, the pair defeated Frantisek Cermak and Mikhail Elgin 4-6, 7-6, 7-6.

They next take on the sixth seeds, Indian Rohan Bopanna and Pakistan’s Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi.

Thursday’s action sees Israel’s sole singles player, Julia Glushko, first up on Court 6 when she takes on Belgian Kirsten Flipkens for a place in the third round.

Shahar Peer who earlier in the week lost in the singles, begins her doubles campaign when she opens proceedings on Court 11. Playing alongside Daniela Hantuchova, they take on the fifth seeds Cara Black and Sania Mirza.
