Jonathan Paull and his crew completed their Great Atlantic Challenge when they arrived in St Lucia on Friday morning.

Sailing the 3,000 nautical miles in 19 days, and in doing so, raising [so far] more than £20,000 for Shaare Zedek, the Jewish Studies tutor at Eton said: “A TranAtlantic crossing in a small sailing boat remains one of the world’s great challenges as man pits himself against the elements and everything the ocean has to throw at him. There were a few hairy moments, but it was an amazing experience. We worked well as a team, enjoyed good food and even managed to catch a fish!”

Keeping his touch with his family over satellite phone, as well as making an appearance at the charity’s FIFA evening which involved a Q&A with former FA chairmen Lord Triesman and David Bernstein, describing the challenge as simply “amazing”, he said: “Every minute was a highlight, every wave we rode, every star we saw, every constellation in the sky, every part of it was amazing. It was an
amazing place to be, it’s a huge area of water that not many people go over.

It was a great experience and if I had the opportunity, would definitely do it again.”
