A European rabbinic body has increased its links to the UK with the appointment of a British director of community relations.

Marc Meyer, the chairman of Hendon United who recently led a strategic review for the United Synagogue, was appointed to the Conference of European Rabbis (CER) role, which will include Holocaust education and leadership training.

“It is an honour and a privilege,” said Meyer. “The challenges faced by the Jewish people are particularly acute and to get a chance to play a part both at CER and Lo Tishkach level constitute both a challenge and an opportunity not to be passed.”

British representatives on the CER’s standing committee include Dayan Y. Abraham and Dayan Menachem Gelley of the London Beth Din, and Dayan Chanoch Ehrentreu, 83, who is the president of the CER’s Supreme Rabbinic Court of Europe.
