Ex-Hasmonean student becomes youngest mayor of Barnet

A former Hasmonean pupil has been elected as the youngest ever mayor of Barnet. Councillor Mark Shooter, 43, who represents the Hendon ward, is due to take up the post in May.

The father-of-five, who attends Raleigh Close, Toras Chaim and Ner Yisrael shuls, has chosen Chai as his mayoral charity.

The hedge fund manager said: “I’m looking forward to helping promote Barnet Council and engaging with as many residents as possible.”

Shooter is the second former Hasmonean pupil to be mayor in three years, following in the footsteps of Melvin Cohen.
