EXCLUSIVE: Guardian podcaster asked to step down from panel after posting Jewish power conspiracies

Chanté Joseph, the journalist revealed by Jewish News to have retweeted a pro-Hamas account following the 7 October massacre in Israel, will no longer be speaking on a high-profile panel at the Stylist Live event this weekend as a result of the social media content she posted.

This is despite the fact that the Guardian pop culture podcaster had featured in a promotional post on Instagram for the show just four days ago.

Joseph has about 68,000 followers on X (formerly Twitter) and had reposted deeply offensive content relating to the war and the preceding terror attacks. She has highlighted conspiracies about Jewish power to her audience and retweeted a post that dismissed a campaign emphasising the plight of the hostages in Gaza as “nothing but propaganda”.

According to a blog post announcing her presence at Stylist Live, Jones was going to be on the Schwarzkopf LIVE panel, hosting “an energising chat about self-expression and getting comfortable with who we really are with self-acceptance.” She was set to appear alongside lifestyle influencer Alex Light and author Megan Jayne Crabbe, but will no longer be doing so.

Stylist Live is an annual event which the organisers describe as offering “the very best shopping, entertainment, fashion and live speakers”. This year it is taking place at the Old Truman Brewery from 10 to 12 November.

Joseph, 27, has previously made and presented a documentary entitled How Not To Be Racist for Channel 4. She has also collaborated with brands such as Bumble, Adidas, Spotify and YouTube, according to her website.

When her troubling social media activities were revealed, Joseph told Jewish News: “I repost a huge amount on social media in the spur of the moment and I now realise I have badly misjudged some recent posts. I did not fully understand the content or implications at the time. I have now deleted the posts and I sincerely apologise for the upset I have caused.”

Guardian spokesperson confirmed to Jewish News that Joseph’s Pop Culture podcast “is taking a break”.
