Exclusive: Prince Charles will convert to Judaism “within three years”

The future king of England intends to convert to Judaism within the next three years.

A Clarence House source confirmed today the Prince of Wales has secretly been meeting with a senior United Synagogue rabbi three times a week and has developed “a deep and lasting connection” with Judaism.

New Jew: Prince Charles is understood to be in the process of converting.

Prince Charles has long fostered a relationship with world Jewry. Unlike his mother, Queen Elizabeth, the heir to the throne has visited Israel and many of his closest friends are Jewish, including Simon Sebag Montefiore and actor Stephen Fry.

The Prince of Wales even has his own blue velvet kippa with a silver royal crest to wear at Jewish weddings and barmitzvahs.

It is believed the Duchess of Cornwall has also fostered an interest in the religion and has taken to lighting candles on a Friday night, as well as attending challah-baking classes in West London.

A Clarence House spokesman said: “The Prince of Wales has really taken Judaism to heart and intends to fully convert within the next three years.

“The Queen is aware of his position and fully supports him and the Duchess of Cornwall.

“There may be constitutional issues that arise, but this would not be the first time the Royal Family has overcome obstacles placed in their way.

“If Charles wants to convert, then he will.”
