FA investigate Hitler jibe at Wingate fans

The Football Association are investigating claims that former Enfield Town manager George Borg told Wingate & Finchley fans “Hitler is going to get you”.

Borg  was sacked by the club hours after their 3-2 defeat, though the club refused to comment as to the reason for his dismissal.

Denying that was what he said, Borg did though admit to making a similar remark, telling the Non League Newspaper how Wingate supporters had been singing songs about his mother who died from cancer three years ago. He said: “I know it is not acceptable either way but I dispute the wording of what has been reported. It was out of character but there are reasons behind it that perhaps people do not know. I did not say ‘Hitler is going to get you’, but I did say ‘They sound like Hitler’ with the songs they were singing.”

Wingate released a statement which said: “There were a very small section of supporters at the match in question, these consisted of a handful of supporters, players’ family members and club officials. The club wish to make it clear that any allegations made by George Borg as to the conduct of that group are categorically denied. Those present at the match are willing to co-operate with any investigation into the conduct of George Borg on that day and their contact details can be provided to those investigating the incident.”
