The victory moved them to within eight points off top spot, but with two games in hand on the two sides above them, he’s confident they can bridge the gap and be champions come May.
He said: “Everything is still in our hands and we will be going for the title. We’ve won six out of our eight league games and are so far unbeaten, it’s been quite a good start but we could have done better. We have a great bunch of guys and deserve to achieve everything.”
They were certainly no match for Fortune on Sunday morning, and the only surprise was that they were only 1-0 up at the break, Gordon claiming his first of the morning with a clinical finish past Fortune goalkeeper Tony Hirschstein, who up until then had miraculously kept the score at 0-0.
The floodgates did though open after the break, Gordon claimed his second, finishing off a neat passing move with a low angled finish, before Leor Harel made it three, with what Shooman called ‘the goal of the season so far’, providing another angled drive which this time flew into the top corner.
Gordon rounded off the scoring with an emphatic finish from close-range, to seal a performance which Shooman was delighted with. He said: “I was very pleased with the whole team performance, the commitment, energy and team work were spot on.
“I thought the defence were superb, the midfield were totally dominant and the forwards worked very well together.
“The way the team played as a whole really pleased me, but when you look at the number of chances we missed, 8 or 9-0 would have been more representative of the game.”
By contrast, Temple Fortune player-manager Jonathan Cohen wasn’t as happy with his side’s performance. He said: “We were not good at all today and although we never gave up, we just didn’t give Faithfold enough problems from front to back, but credit to them, they are a very good side.
“The gap distance between our back and front line was too big today and it meant we could never really try to apply any pressure on the ball. The one thing I was pleased about was that we had roughly 12 players from our squad that were unavailable for selection this week and we still didn’t throw in the towel.
“The scoreline was a fair reflection of the game. I love my squad but we weren’t good enough on the day.”
One win and nine defeats from their opening 12 matches has seen them near the bottom of the table for the majority of the season, though he is hopeful they can string together some wins and start pushing up the table. “I’m obviously not delighted with our start to the season and injuries to important players has really cost us overall”, he says. “Of course I think we can climb the table as I know we have players that have can play good football, but I can honestly say that at no point have we been able to field what I believe to our best 11. Whilst I hate losing football matches, I genuinely love the guys in the squad and it makes getting up on a Sunday much easier.”
