Watch: Faith leaders unite in song amid challenges posed by the pandemic

Revd Richard Coles and Rabbi Janner-Klausner feature in light-hearted clip with religious leaders ahead of Inter-Faith Week 2020

A video sketch featuring Revd Richard Coles and Rabbi Janner-Klausner has been released for this year’s Inter-Faith week to highlight the unity of different faith groups.

Featuring contributions from Jewish, Muslim, Christian, Hindu, Sikh and Buddhist leaders, the video was scripted by Ivor Baddiel, who has written for the BAFTAs and X-Factor, and produced by Faiths United, a coalition of faith leaders from across the UK responding to the coronavirus pandemic.

The video shows the religious leaders coming together through music – something which was challenging for most of them. But they said that they took on the task to show that when people come together and support each other, you can produce something joyous.

Ivor Baddiel said: “I was delighted to write the script for this. It’s a fun project with a serious point. Wherever we are in the UK, and whatever our faith, we need to stick together. I think the song we chose perfect highlights the camaraderie and togetherness that has helped a lot of people get through these very trying times.”

Zaki Cooper of Faiths United said: “We wanted to find a way of conveying the togetherness that people of all faiths and none have felt since March and to highlight the good work of faith groups. All over the country, churches, mosques, synagogues and temples have been doing exceptional work providing food and other supplies to those in need, and this is continuing.

“During this year’s Inter-Faith Week, we remind ourselves of the power of faith communities to build community, neighbourliness and the bonds of togetherness.”
