A far-right activist has been charged with harassing Luciana Berger.

The offence relates to allegations of malicious communications sent by Joshua Bonehill-Paine, 23, to the Labour MP via social media.

A Scotland Yard spokesman: “Joshua Bonehill-Paine of HMP Wayland was charged on 13 June with racially or religiously aggravated offence of harassment (non-violent) committed between October 26, 2014, and January 25, 2015. It’s alleged the offences are racially or religiously aggravated. He has yet to be given a court date.”

Somersetlive.co.uk reported Bonehill-Paine as saying he would deny the charge.

He is quoted as saying: “I fully welcome the opportunity of a trial and look forward to my day in court. It is by now clear that I am the victim of state tyranny and these further charges only show the true nature of the forces I am exposing.

“I do not fear the possibility of a long time spent in prison, I will fight, fight, fight! And do everything within the remit of my power to stop this from happening.”

In October 2014, Garron Helm was jailed for four weeks for sending an anti-Semitic tweet to Berger, the MP for Liverpool Wavertree.
