The Sunrise Tennis Club in Florida, has been named as the venue to host next month’s Israel vs Argentina Davis Cup play-off tie.

The International Tennis Federation ruled Israel was unsafe to host the tie due to the current security situation. Pavel Lisovtsev, the deputy director of the Israel Tennis Association, reportedly visited the Sunrise Tennis Club, Delray Beach Tennis Center and Stubhub Centre in Los Angeles, before telling the Davis Cup committee and ITF his preference for the Sunrise venue, which was also approved by the Argentines.

Gabe Norona, the owner of Enterprise Tennis which runs the Sunrise Tennis Club, said: “I’m totally excited and happy to help the cause. I’m passionate about tennis, and to host a sporting event like this and for a humanitarian cause is a dream.'”

After initially appealing the Davis Cup committee’s decision to switch the tie, the ITA proposed postponing the tie to October or moving it to Haifa from Tel Aviv, but the ITF rejected both due to time constraints and that they believed it was its “duty to ensure the safety of players, officials and spectators, and that there was a lack of certainty as to the security situation in Israel at the date of the tie.” The tie takes place between 12-14 September.
