Former chair of Liberal Judaism made director at Durham University

Lucian Hudson, who is a vice-president of the progressive Jewish movement, will take up a role at the prestigious educational institution

A senior figure in the world of progressive Judaism in the UK has been appointed as the new communications director at the prestigious Durham University.

Lucian Hudson is a vice-president and past chair of Liberal Judaism, as well as a past governor of Leo Baeck College and a former member of Jewish Leadership Council, who has served as director of communications for the UK Government.

A journalist by training, who has worked for both the BBC and ITV, Hudson will oversee advancement activities, marketing, communications and developing the University’s alumni networks worldwide.

Hudson has previously been a director at both The Open University and Oxford University, and currently chairs a charity focused on tackling climate change.

Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Claire O’Malley paid tribute to Hudson’s “extensive leadership experience and expertise”. Hudson said: “Now of all times we need to promote the critical role of universities. I’m thrilled to be given an opportunity.”
