Rabbi Sacks, who has authored more than 25 books and holds professorships at institutions in the UK and America, will receive the Katz Award during a ceremony in Jerusalem this month.

He was selected by a panel including former Israeli Chief Rabbi Israel Meir Lau, alongside Yeshiva University head Rabbi Zvi (Herschel) Schachter.

The late Rabbi Yehoshua Yeshaya Neuwirth, who authored the authoritative work on the laws of Shabbat and festivals, and Rabbi Zalman Nehemiah Goldberg, head of the Hasidic Yeshiva of Sadigura and the Jerusalem College of Technology, will also be recognised.

The Katz Award was established in 1975 by Marcos and Adina Katz in memory of Golda Katz, the Katz family matriarch.
