Former mayor Michael Bloomberg to get honorary knighthood
American media mogul Michael Bloomberg is to get an honorary knighthood from the Queen.
The announcement comes only days after David Cameron was heard telling him “she purred down the line” over the result of the Scottish referendum.
The 72-year-old former New York mayor, one of the world’s richest men, last year became the first winner of the oligarch-funded Genesis Prize, a $1 million award presented for “Jewish values”.
Bloomberg will be made an Honorary Knight of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (KBE).
Congratulations to @MikeBloomberg on being awarded a KBE – he’s done amazing work on helping cities to work better together
