Israeli actor and producer Gal Gadot has been named the 2026 Genesis Prize Laureate, earning recognition for her outspoken advocacy for Israel, her empathy for civilians affected by the war in Gaza, and her global influence as one of the most prominent Jewish voices in entertainment.

Dubbed the “Jewish Nobel” by TIME magazine, the $1 million annual award celebrates individuals who combine professional excellence with a commitment to Jewish values. Gadot said she will donate the entire prize to Israeli NGOs helping the country heal its physical and psychological wounds following the 7 October attacks.

“I am humbled to receive the Genesis Prize and to stand alongside the amazing laureates who came before me,” said Gadot. “I am a proud Jew and a proud Israeli. I love my country and dedicate this award to the organisations who will help Israel heal and to those incredible people who serve on the front lines of compassion. Israel has endured unimaginable pain. Now we must begin to heal – to rebuild hearts, families, and communities.”

Stan Polovets, co-founder and chairman of the Genesis Prize Foundation, praised the actor for her “bravery and moral courage”, saying: “Gal Gadot’s moral clarity and unwavering love for Israel have inspired millions. The award recognises her steadfast defence of Israel at great personal and professional risk, her advocacy for the hostages, her compassion for victims of terror, and her empathy for all innocent victims of this terrible war unleashed by Hamas.”

Since 7 October, Gadot has been among the most visible global figures defending Israel on the world stage. She condemned Hamas’ atrocities, called for the release of hostages, and privately screened unedited footage of the attacks for Hollywood leaders – an act of courage at a time when few in the industry publicly supported Israel.

With her films grossing more than $6 billion worldwide, Gadot is one of Israel’s most recognisable cultural ambassadors. Her portrayal of Wonder Woman has made her an international icon of strength and integrity, and she has often spoken with pride about her Jewish heritage. In 2018, she was named among TIME’s 100 most influential people.

Past Genesis Prize laureates include Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, filmmaker Steven Spielberg, Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla, Barbra Streisand, and New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft. The most recent recipient, Argentine President Javier Milei, was honoured for his steadfast support of Israel and decision to move Argentina’s embassy to Jerusalem.

Founded to celebrate Jewish contributions to humanity, the Genesis Prize channels its awards into philanthropy – funding causes from women’s equality and refugee aid to antisemitism prevention and hostage rehabilitation.
