Gifted 10-year-old girl sings Barbra Streisand to win Jews Got Talent!

Shelly Chitiyat wowed judges at the community's premier talent contest last week!

More than 300 guests filled the Wyllyotts Theatre in Potters Bar on Sunday evening for the community’s leading variety show, with performances from gymnasts, an Israeli dance troupe, a magician, singers and a comedian. It was, however the young singers who stole the show with Shelly Chitiyat, a final year student at Mathilda Marks-Kennedy School.

Shelly received a standing ovation for her performance of the song Papa, Can You Hear Me from the film Yentl in memory of her grandfather who passed away last year.

The judges were blown away with the emotion and maturity in her voice and stage presence during her performance.

Shelly said: “I really enjoyed the performance and knowing that it went to a good cause made me even happier. Thank you for giving me the opportunity. I believe that my grandpa, who was watching me from heaven, was very proud of me. I was very excited and nervous as there was very good competitors.”

Fellow singer Yoni Shine, 11, was presented with the runners up trophy at the event, organised by the Hebrew Order of David in aid of Jewish Care.

The JFS pupil belted out a perfect performance of Rise Up with his 19-year-old brother accompanying him on the piano. As the audience broke out in applause, his elder brother gave him a congratulatory hug and kiss in a
moment that warmed the hearts of every audience member.

The night’s judges were TV presenter Melanie Sykes, comedian Steve Furst (appearing as Lenny Beige), Britain’s Got Talent finalist and impressionist Francine Lewis and Jewish News editor Richard Ferrer.

“It was a fantastically successful evening, raising more than £8,000.
