Gilbert’s recalls turkey breast pastrami due to deadly listeria contamination fears

Kosher food company Gilbert’s has recalled packs of its turkey breast pastrami due to fears of listeria contamination. 

The Food Standards Agency confirmed on Sunday 29th March that it is urging customers to avoid specific batches of the deli meat labelled with the codes CK016 and CK027 and stamped with a use-by date of April 9 2026, where the bacteria Listeria monocytogenes was discovered.

Symptoms can be similar to flu and include high temperature,  muscle ache or pain, chills, feeling or being sick and diarrhoea. However, in rare cases, the infection can be more severe, causing serious complications, such as meningitis.

Some people are more vulnerable to listeria infections, including those over 65 years of age, pregnant women and their unborn babies, babies less than one month old and people with weakened immune systems.

Milton Keynes-based cooked meats and delicatessen manufacturers Gilbert’s has its range stocked in major UK supermarkets, including Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Morrisons, Asda, and Waitrose and via online retailers including Amazon UK.

Customers who have bought the product are advised NOT to eat it. Instead, they should return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.
