Association of Jewish Refugees joins Yad Vashem and the World Jewish Congress in backing the Liberation75 initiative in Canada next year

An international gathering of survivors, educators and experts will mark 75th anniversary of liberation from the Holocaust next year.

Liberation75 was announced at a Holocaust remembrance ceremony in Toronto, as organisers plan for 7,000 to participate in a conference in 2020.

More than 70 international Shoah education groups will participate, including the Association of Jewish Refugees (UK), the World Jewish Congress, Yad Vashem and the United States Holocaust Museum.

“The goal of Liberation75 is to remember the victims, honour the survivors, and celebrate the role of the liberators,” explained Marilyn Sinclair, the event’s founder and a daughter of a Holocaust survivor.

“Equally importantly, we want Liberation75 to serve as a reminder that the Holocaust is a lesson about what happens when hate goes unchecked, and we don’t stand up for others.”

It will take place at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre from May 31 to June 2, 2020, with more than 5,000 visitors expected from around the world and over 2,000 students who will attend a day of interactive learning.

“We want to help students understand the lessons of the Holocaust and other genocides and empower our youth to build their futures on a foundation of freedom, acceptance and inclusion,” said Sinclair.
