Glushko wins opener at French Open
Julia Glushko gave Israeli tennis something to cheer about on Tuesday afternoon after she beat Croatian Donna Vekic to reach the second round at Roland Garros.
Following first round exits for both Shahar Peer and Dudi Sela on Monday, Glushko ensured it wasn’t a hat-trick of defeats, winning 7-5, 2-6, 6-4.
Her reward is a tough-looking second round tie against the 22nd seed, Belgian Kirtsen Flipkens, which is due to take place on Thursday.
Peer and Jonathan Erlich are yet to start their doubles campaign.
