‘Grandma’ Raisman turns in ‘best ever performance’

Eldest member of the US gymnast team qualifies for three finals.

Aly Raisman

American gymnast Aly Raisman says she performed “the best bar routine of my life” as she booked her place in three separate finals on Sunday evening.

The three-time Olympic medalist at London four years ago, which included her winning  gold in the floor competition, performing a routine to “Hava Nagila.” finished first in the team all-around competition, and second in the floor exercise and individual all-round competitions – edging reigning Olympic champion Gabby Douglas thanks in part to what she said was “the best bar routine of my life.”

Nicknamed ‘grandma’ by the rest of the team, given that she’s the eldest member of the team at 22 years of age – she was also the eldest in London four years ago – she is also once again captaining the team and will look to once more scale the podium, with two of the finals taking place on Tuesday, and the third on Thursday.
