Hilary Benn to visit Israel next week

Benn, who is widely acknowledged to have made one of Parliament’s finest speeches when advocating action against ISIS in Syria this month, was making only his second international visit outside Europe in his role as shadow foreign secretary.

Hilary Benn is to make his first visit to Israel since being re-appointed as shadow foreign secretary.

The leading Labour politician will also visit the Palestinian territories during the landmark trip next week.

He has twice addressed Labour Friends of Israel – at the party’s conference and at LFI’s lunch – since the election of Jeremy Corbyn sparked concern among Israel’s supporters. At the lunch, he called for the party to take on those who seek to delegitimise Israel.

He will be accompanied on the Israel leg by the parliamentary chair of Labour Friends of Israel Joan Ryan.
