Holocaust survivors honoured with national volunteer award

A group of survivors who devote their lives to passing on the lessons of the Shoah have been honoured with a national award.
Mala Tribich, 90, accepted the Volunteer Team of the Year gong at the Third Sector Excellence Awards, as the Holocaust Educational Trust (HET) was recognised for its work.
She said she has “been speaking and volunteering for HET for over 20 years. We are very proud to have won and feel that speaking to the next generation is so important.”

Last year, HET’s survivor volunteers spoke in 542 schools across the country, telling their life stories and teaching about the lessons of the Shoah.
Chief Executive of the Holocaust Educational Trust Karen Pollock said: “We are incredibly proud of our brave and brilliant survivors for being named Volunteer Team of the Year from a shortlist of such inspiring organisations.”

Other shortlisted finalists included the Jewish Women’s Aid, Refugee and Migrant Centre Black Country and Birmingham, and dog protection charity, C.A.R.I.A.D.
